The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB)matriculated 6,356 new students for the 2025/2026 academic session the highest number in the university’s nearly 40-year history.
This was revealed by the acting Head of Public Relations, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, in a statement on Thursday. The matriculation ceremony coincided with the 13th Commencement Lecture held at the Prof. Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde described the milestone as a significant achievement, reflecting the increasing trust of parents and applicants in FUNAAB. He charged the new students to maintain at least 70% class attendance, dress appropriately, and uphold discipline in line with the institution standards.
The VC emphasized FUNAAB’s zero tolerance for misconduct and stated that student union activities would be guided by dialogue and responsible leadership. He also assured the new intakes that their rights would be protected throughout their academic journey.
Guest speaker Prof. Subuola Fasoyiro of OAU Institute of Agricultural Research and Training delivered the lecture titled “Future Leaders of Character in Agriculture: Building Capacity Today for National and Global Impact Tomorrow.”
She encouraged students to focus on character, competence, and capacity as essential tools for effective leadership. Fasoyiro further emphasized vision, integrity, teamwork, and emotional intelligence as keys to shaping national and global futures.
She concluded by urging students to embrace discipline and continuous self-improvement, noting that “your character will always safeguard your reputation.
